Paintings by JMW Turner. I like the aesthetic of the haze, areas that are not clearly defined and slightly cloudy. This makes the viewer decide what they are looking at, what they are feeling, it allows them to decide what the image is telling. Incorporating this into my photography could make the images look unrealistic and it could lead the viewer to question and think about what the images are really showing.

These sketches by set designer Adolphe Appia show a sense of mystery and uncertainty. They capture the crisp lines of the forms whilst the lighting adds a softness to the image. An aestheic I would like to play with to show moments of danger and uncertainty of what is true.

I’ve just done a third shoot… the idea has slightly changed again, pushing this idea of how we live in a false reality because of electric lighting; a false sense of security and time… will see how the pics come out in the hdr formats!

Trying to make an hdr from night time photography… it looks like a scene from a video game.

Thinking about my light proposal (As the first idea didn’t go down too well… ) I’d like to explore electric lighting and how it has changed the way we behave. How there’s little difference between night and day, as we can do the same activities at night as we can during the day.

I want to explore this idea through an HDR aesthetic as it will make the image look unreal. This aesthetic will reinforce the idea that we behave as if there is no day or night, living in a false reality of time.

So I thought I’d start with photographing an orange with my own light set up at home… found out it wasn’t a good idea, broke the lightbulb, photos weren’t all that great, need to work on technique for mastering close up photography to show the textures in the object to make it look like something else.
